Service, Loyalty, and Vigilance on Four Paws.
The San Andreas Highway Patrol K9 Division is a specialized support unit dedicated to enhancing public safety through the use of highly trained service dogs. Our teams are the "vanguard of interdiction," utilizing the superior sensory capabilities of our K9 partners to detect illegal contraband and track fleeing fugitives across the state’s vast highway network.
Whether conducting a roadside sniff of a suspicious vehicle or performing a wilderness search for a missing person, the K9 Division provides an unparalleled layer of specialized enforcement to the SAHP.
What We Offer: SAHP K9 Division
The K9 Division is a premier support element of the San Andreas Highway Patrol. We provide our handlers and the citizens of San Andreas with elite resources designed to intercept criminal activity and ensure officer safety through canine partnership.
We provide access to two primary tiers of highly disciplined service dogs, bred and trained for high-intensity highway environments:
Dual-Purpose Units: Trained in both Suspect Apprehension (bite work/tracking) and Narcotics Detection. These are the frontline defenders of the SAHP.
Single-Purpose Units: Specialists focused exclusively on Explosive Ordnance Detection (EOD) or Search and Rescue (SAR), providing critical support during high-profile events or missing person cases.
Our handlers are equipped with the most advanced K9-specific vehicle technology available:
Heat-Management Systems: In-car sensors that monitor cabin temperature and automatically drop windows, activate fans, and page the handler if the interior becomes unsafe for the K9.
Remote Deployment (Door Pops): Hydraulic door-release systems that allow the handler to deploy the K9 from a distance during high-risk foot pursuits or "Officer Down" scenarios.
Ballistic Protection: K9-specific Level IIIA body armor to protect our four-legged partners during high-risk entries and tactical deployments.
The K9 Division offers more than just a dog; we offer a specialized set of tactical solutions:
Narcotics Interdiction: Advanced detection of hidden compartments in commercial and passenger vehicles.
Fugitive Tracking: Scent-trailing capabilities that allow us to locate suspects who have fled into the wilderness or urban alleyways.
Article Searches: The ability to locate discarded evidence (firearms, casing, or tossed narcotics) that the human eye might miss.
Joining the K9 Division offers a specialized career path with unique training opportunities:
Advanced Decoy Training: Learning the "art of the bite" to help train the next generation of K9s.
Tactical Medicine (K9-TECC): Specialized training for handlers in canine first aid, including trauma care and heatstroke prevention.
Inter-Agency Cooperation: Working alongside SWAT and CID (Criminal Investigation Division) on high-stakes warrants and raids.
"To go where man cannot, to see what man misses, and to protect those who protect others."
